Interview with World Schooling Erika Ferreira

Please introduce yourselves and your family and where you are from?

We are a family of 7 originally from South Africa. Since I was young I always wanted to travel and see the world. Ive worked on a cruise ship, as an Au-pair and lived in America for 9 1/2 years.

My husband is Portuguese and always made family trips to Europe with his parents. Last year we packed our bags, sold most of our unnecessary belongings and traveled 27 European countries in our camper over 8 months.

Since we arrived back in SA we have a serious case of “restless wanderer syndrome” 😉

Are you worldschoolers traveling full time or taking many long trips?

We take many trips often but not full time traveling yet, we are working on it this year though.

Can you share with us a few of your most memorable trips and destinations ?

It is hard to pick the best moments as there were so many. But Morocco always comes to light when we talk about amazing experiences. Riding the camels and sleeping in the dessert was a very unique experience for our family.

The hot springs in Italy was also something we have never seen before and was very different!.

And then off cause our favorite country, Greece, the food, the landscape and the people! Everything is extraordinary.

The big question, how do you prepare and sustain yourselves financially?

My husband has a few businesses that he manage online while we are away and I am currently working on getting qualified to teach English online.

What are the best tips you can give other families wanting to do the same?

I feel the first step is really in your head! You have to make that choice! If your mind is in the right place you can accomplish many things. Then start to simplify your life and have goals and a plan in place.

How different is your life now that you are traveling and what are the most positive results you can share with us?

We feel live is less rushed when we are traveling. Not running to unimportant events, places and functions! Just enjoying every day together.

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers to inspire them to take the leap?

If you have the desire to travel you should go! There is no guarantee that everything will work out, but I can guarantee that you WILL regret it if you dont give it a try.

Do you have any blogs, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest or other social media we can follow you on?
